I wanted to try and be as inclusive as possible so decided to select a technical drafting type mechanical pencil for those who are into precision, and a general writing mechanical pencil for those who apply their graphite in a more relaxed manner. With that in mind I ended up selecting the Lamy AL-star 171 pencil black 0.7mm and the TWSBI Precision Fixed mechanical pencil silver 0.5mm. It’s a surprise to me, but I think I’d actually go with the Lamy Al-Star. I’ve turne up my nose at Safari pencils in the past, but something about the aluminum there makes the pencil look more impressive.
I also already have a matching fountain pen (albeit in a different color) so the TESBI would be a more expensive prize to win...

Well, the rational choice would be the Lamy since its ergonomics would suit me better.
But hey, rationality is soooo uncool nowadays and while the TWSBI looks really good, I can't stand the design of the Lamy Safari family. So, the TWSBI it is!

The Lamy is my choice.
One of my best friends in primary school had a similar-looking Lamy pen (most including me had Pelikan, some Geha, but Lamy was a bit showing-off ;-) ). So I would prefer the Lamy.
