0.2 mm rulez!
I picked 0.7mm, I like that its a "common" size and that there are a lot of pencil choices between that and 0.5. As an aside, is there a way to see the results?
Drawing - 0.2 mm/0.3 mm.
Writing - 0.7 mm.
General Purpose - 0,5 mm.
I will publish the results in a week or so. In the meantime if I get time I will read the instructions and see if there is a way :)
As Blackbeard has suggested, if you really use your pencils, it does not make a lot of sense to pick an outright favourite lead size. It would be like asking a golfer to pick his or her favourite club. There may be one that has a special place for sentimental reasons, but the choice of club would depend on the shot required to be played. I use 1.18 mm leads because they fit most of the pencils in my collection, but if I have a hankering to use a Sampson Mordan, then I have to use a lead size to suit. If I am solving a crossword, I like to use a 0.9 mm lead, but if the grid is small I will opt for 0.7 mm. I find 0.5 mm too fragile, and 0.3 mm even more so. Even if I am drawing a plan, I will use a sharpened wooden cased pencil in preference to a thin leaded mechanical pencil below 0.7 mm.
If I am writing on normal feint ruled paper (as I often did when I was studying a few years' back) I have no problems with 1.18 mm leads, but, if I am using narrow feint ruling, I will go for 0.7 mm or 0.9 mm.
