Pantone Universe Coloured Pencils

By Crikey, when it comes to wooden coloured pencils, I’m not sure it gets any better than this!Pantone Universe coloured pencils. A whole tin of 24.Sqaure cross-section. Awesome stuff (and priced to match)
Each pencil is printed with its Pantone colour number and the details of number, name and emotional response are printed on the tin. Thus we do not merely have light blue, deep red and black, we have:
15-4343 “Ethereal Blue” – idyllic, balmy, pacifying.
18-1741 “Raspberry Wine” – tasteful, cultivated, discriminating.
19-0812 “Turkish Coffee” – plausible, robust, practical.

Don’t ask me how they sharpen, draw, erase, feel in the hand or anything. It's not as if I'm actually going to use them.

Not going to use them!? Even for Science (TM)? Ah well. The square section seems awkward to me, anyway.

Can't use em. Not even for science. They are just pure unadulterated eye-candy.

I wonder how the shape would sit in the hand. But they are very beautiful.

Interesting shape, though I think a triangular cross section would be more comfortable.

Hi folks. Well the square section is very unusual and of some concern re comfort, but it just looks so strange and cool. I haven't held them for a long time in actual use, but when you pick them up they don't feel too bad - basically you can easily twist the square a bit so it sort of fits in the fingers like a triangular pencil. Still, extended long term use maybe another story.

I have a question: would you have to put the colored pencils back in the same order every time so that the names on the tin match? (did that question make sense?)

Hello Mike - well the names and numbers are printed in order on the inside face of the tin so it would be best to keep putting them back in them in the order.

Where did you purchase these?

Kiwi-d said...

Hi Patrick - a friend in Germany got them for me from a local art supplies store, but I don't believe they are commonly available.

Did you know they are made by Pentel? I think they are discontinued.

Thanks Electric Pen - Are you sure about Pentel? I haven't done any checking myself but others have said Pentel don't manufacture their wooden pencils, they are all made by external suppliers.
