Mitsubishi 10B

It’s spring and the wooden pencil tree has grown some new twigs! A Mitsubishi 10B. I’ll say that again, 10B!!!! By crikey, that’s dark! Each pencil comes in its own hang-sell type display card. Flat card with all sorts of writing, and the edge is folded up into a long thin box that the pencil slides into.
As expected, the 10B graphite core is rather thicker than average – almost more core than wood.Brilliant shiny lacquer, gold bands, black top – this is a premium pencil, but what else would you expect from a wooden pencil made in Japan? Not much writing on the pencil, mostly in Japanese. I’m too scared to ruin them by sharpening, so someone else will have to tell you just how smooth and dark they really are. Thanks Isu.

Spinal Tap Vine Charcoal is pretty soft or you can get powered graphite =)

Absolutely great! By looking at the picture with the hand holding the pencil I have the impression that the pencil has a larger diameter. How many millimetres does it measure? By the way, the combination of the fence post ad and the pencils is excellent :-) - Mitusbishi also has triangle pencils in 4B and 6B. Not as soft as that one but to me the combination of shape and hardness grade is unusual.

One should think this is as dark as it gets - in graphite. But I remember Koh I Noor once had a Jumbo 20B!
Faber- Castell (and probably others) manufactures a 100% graphite stick - 100B?
Anyway, thanks Dave, it looks like a fun pencil.
Why not sharpen just one and let's hear how it is? Don't be afraid, it wont break - promise :)

Cool pencil, but I don't concur that sharpening would ruin it. ;-)

OK, Mr Mitsubishi 10B will meet Mr Pencil Sharpener and I'll post the results in a couple of days. All other questions will also be answered then in the follow up posting. I've got a little more information on its intended purpose, etc.
